Plum

The plum is a fruit with a sweet taste and nice aroma. It is the fruit of plum tree. It belongs to the Prunus family along with peaches and damsons.
Its shape is oval or elliptical and has a deep blue or purple colour when ripe. It is eaten as fresh fruit or dried without altering the nutritional components.  It is used to make jam as well as juice and is also used in pasty making. The fruits destined for drying are harvested when they are ripe. They are then placed in special furnaces at a temperature of 65-90 degrees Celsius.
The plum is rich in vitamin C. It also contains vitamin A, calcium, cellulose and magnesium.

In Greece the organized cultivation is limited and occurs mainly in the northern part of the country: in Thessaly and Macedonia.
